Trump Doubles Metal Tariffs to 50%
President Trump has raised tariffs on imported steel and aluminium from 25% to 50%, effective June 4, to protect U.S. manufacturers. The UK is exempt due to a trade deal, but countries like India—which exports about $5 billion in related goods to the U.S. annually—could feel the impact. Indian Minister HD Kumaraswamy noted the effect will be “minor,” as exports to the U.S. are relatively small.
