L&T–Nvidia Partnership Targets India’s Largest AI Infrastructure Project
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a strategic partnership with Nvidia to develop sovereign, gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure under the IndiaAI Mission — a project that could position India as a major global hub for next-generation AI computing. The initiative is designed to create scalable, production-ready AI capacity capable of supporting domestic enterprises, hyperscalers, cloud providers and industrial users.
The collaboration combines L&T’s engineering and infrastructure execution strength with Nvidia’s advanced AI stack, including high-performance GPUs, CPUs, networking, accelerated storage platforms and enterprise AI software. The project aims to move beyond pilot deployments and enable large-scale, real-world AI adoption across sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, healthcare and public services.
Gigawatt-Scale AI Factory Model
A core element of the venture is the development of an AI-ready “data centre factory” model built for high-density computing workloads. The roadmap includes scaling Nvidia GPU clusters to nearly 30 MW capacity at L&T’s Chennai campus, which forms part of a larger 300-acre gigawatt-scalable infrastructure hub. In parallel, a new 40 MW data centre in Mumbai is under execution, reinforcing the company’s strategy to create distributed AI infrastructure across key economic regions.
The long-term vision extends toward building gigawatt-level AI capacity capable of supporting India’s sovereign digital ecosystem while remaining interoperable with global technology frameworks. This aligns with the government’s broader push to strengthen domestic AI capability and reduce dependence on overseas infrastructure.
Sovereign AI Cloud and Enterprise Deployment
The proposed platform will allow critical data, AI models and enterprise workloads to be trained and deployed within India, ensuring regulatory compliance and data security. The ecosystem is expected to support live AI agents and industrial automation initiatives across L&T group businesses. Examples include AI-driven factory frameworks, engineering automation, financial services applications and enterprise productivity tools built on Nvidia’s AI architecture.
Industry Leadership View
L&T’s leadership described the investment as a foundational step toward building secure and scalable AI infrastructure that can deliver measurable economic impact across industries. Nvidia highlighted the partnership as part of the broader global wave of accelerated computing infrastructure development, emphasising India’s growing role in the future AI landscape.
Market Perspective
The partnership reflects a strategic shift from traditional infrastructure projects toward high-performance digital infrastructure, signalling L&T’s deeper positioning in the global AI ecosystem. As enterprises transition from experimentation to production-scale deployment, gigawatt-level AI capacity could become a defining factor in India’s technology and manufacturing growth story.
