TCS to Build 100 MW AI Infrastructure, Expansion Plan up to 1 GW | What It Means for India’s Tech Future
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a strategic partnership with Sam Altman’s OpenAI to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption across India and global markets. The collaboration aims to strengthen AI-driven innovation, build advanced infrastructure and enable large-scale digital transformation across multiple industries. The announcement was made during the India AI Impact Summit, highlighting India’s growing role in the global AI ecosystem.
TCS to Develop 100 MW AI Infrastructure — 1 GW Expansion Vision
In the first phase, TCS will develop AI infrastructure with a capacity of 100 megawatts, laying the foundation for high-performance computing and large-scale AI deployment. The project carries a long-term vision to scale up to 1 gigawatt, depending on demand growth and technological progress. This infrastructure push is expected to support enterprise AI adoption and advanced computing requirements across Tata Group companies and external clients.
Strategic Collaboration to Drive AI Adoption Across Sectors
The Tata Group, TCS and OpenAI have signed a broad strategic agreement focused on expanding AI-led innovation across business operations, consumer services and social initiatives. The partnership will bring advanced AI capabilities to multiple sectors, strengthening enterprise efficiency and accelerating digital transformation initiatives.
Focus on Agentic AI and Enterprise ChatGPT Deployment
A key aspect of the alliance is the development of industry-specific Agentic AI solutions, alongside joint go-to-market strategies. Enterprise ChatGPT is expected to be rolled out across Tata Group companies, helping employees integrate AI into everyday workflows and improve productivity. The initiative reflects a larger shift toward enterprise AI platforms becoming central to organisational growth strategies.
India’s AI Growth Momentum and Global Positioning
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted India’s rapid AI adoption, pointing to the country’s skilled talent pool, supportive policy environment and growing ambition in advanced technology. The partnership underscores India’s potential to emerge as a global AI hub as companies invest heavily in infrastructure and innovation.
TCS Leadership Sees AI as a Growth Opportunity
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran described the collaboration as a significant milestone in India’s journey toward global AI leadership. Speaking at the summit, he emphasised that artificial intelligence should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a threat for IT services companies. According to him, TCS aims to leverage AI to expand capabilities, improve efficiency and drive long-term growth.
