Chanakya View

HGS (India) offers exposure to specialised seismic equipment backed by approximately four decades of operating history. In-house manufacturing, export relationships and proposed modernisation support its investment appeal. However, FY2026 income declined despite higher profit, making demand recovery and earnings quality important.

At Rs. 120, post-issue market capitalisation is approximately Rs. 130.30 crore. Against FY2026 consolidated PAT of Rs. 11.64 crore, the fully diluted P/E is approximately 11.19 times. The quoted 9.76 times appears based on annualised April earnings, which represent only one month and provide limited forecasting confidence.

The valuation merits consideration, but investors should examine revenue visibility, cash flows and acquisition deployment before committing.

Chanakya Recommendation: 🟡 Selective Apply

About the Company

Incorporated in February 1986, HGS manufactures geophones, geophone strings, seismic cables, connectors and accessories under the “HG” brand. Applications include oil and gas exploration, mineral exploration, defence research, earthquake monitoring and vibration analysis.

Its Manesar facility includes cable extrusion, injection moulding, precision assembly and testing capabilities. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 and ZED Gold certifications and operates as an export-oriented unit. Its Netherlands subsidiary, HGS Products B.V., supports overseas sales. Promoters include Anil Dass, Shashi Singh, Cecilia Margareta Singh Ramel and Sowar Pvt. Ltd.

Why This IPO Stands Out

✅ Approximately four decades of specialised manufacturing experience.
✅ Products serve exploration, monitoring and industrial applications.
✅ In-house component production supports customisation and quality control.
✅ International presence supported by a Netherlands subsidiary.
✅ Modernisation and backward integration offer operational improvement opportunities.

Key Risks

⚠ FY2026 income declined, highlighting uneven demand.
⚠ Export exposure creates currency and overseas commercial risks.
⚠ Equipment replacement requires timely installation and operational stabilisation.
⚠ Unidentified acquisitions introduce capital-allocation uncertainty.
⚠ SME liquidity constraints accompany a substantial minimum application.

Financial Snapshot (Rs. Crore)

Particulars FY26 FY25 FY24
Total Income 48.91 53.45 37.93
EBITDA 16.89 15.31 6.16
PAT 11.64 10.51 4.00
Net Worth 89.27 85.16 95.04
Total Assets 110.12 104.04 113.70

Chanakya Interpretation

FY2026 total income fell approximately 8.5%, while PAT increased approximately 10.8%. Higher profitability despite lower income warrants examination of operating performance, other income and recurring earnings. April 2026 income of Rs. 3.79 crore generated PAT of Rs. 1.11 crore; one month should not establish an annual trend.

Proposed expenditure includes Rs. 15.05 crore for replacement machinery, Rs. 1.05 crore for gold-plating integration and Rs. 3.26 crore for infrastructure. Benefits depend on utilisation, efficiency gains and customer demand. OFS proceeds accrue to selling shareholders.

IPO Proceeds and Why They Matter

Replacement machineryRs. 15.05 Crore
In-house gold-plating facilityRs. 1.05 Crore
Third-floor infrastructure developmentRs. 3.26 Crore
Unidentified acquisitions and general corporate purposesBalance allocation

Chanakya Interpretation

Machinery replacement primarily supports competitiveness. Investors should distinguish productivity improvements from additional capacity; replacement spending alone does not establish higher sales potential.

Business Outlook

Earthquake surveillance, vibration measurement and geophysical research provide applications beyond exploration. Converting these opportunities into orders requires product qualification, technical reliability and responsive servicing. Demand can remain uneven because customers purchase equipment according to project schedules.

Chanakya View

Consider only with sufficient holding flexibility. Investors requiring quick exits should assess whether the application size suits their portfolio and liquidity needs.

Chanakya Final Verdict

HGS should be evaluated as a specialised industrial business rather than a broad proxy for exploration spending. The next test is whether capital expenditure improves delivery capability, manufacturing efficiency and customer retention.

Acquisition proposals deserve scrutiny regarding purchase price, strategic fit and integration costs. Investors should seek evidence of recurring orders and operating cash generation before assuming a sustained earnings acceleration. A disciplined allocation leaves room to assess execution after listing without depending entirely on favourable opening-day sentiment.

Chanakya Recommendation: 🟡 Selective Apply

Should you apply for HGS (India) IPO?
Chanakya recommends Selective Apply.
