Nifty Technical Outlook: 22,800 Resistance Holds; Bank Nifty Reclaims 54,000
By Om Mehra, Technical Research Analyst, SAMCO Securities
Nifty remains in consolidation mode, with 22,800 acting as the immediate resistance and 22,600–22,500 providing support. Bank Nifty recovered above 54,000, although its primary trend remains weak. Derivatives positioning points to a relatively balanced contest between bulls and bears across both indices.
Nifty Analysis: Recovery From Intraday Low Signals Buying Support
Nifty closed at 22,698.85, down 0.22%, forming a candle with a long lower shadow. After touching an intraday low of 22,498, the index recovered to finish just above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA). The recovery suggests buying interest at lower levels, but sustained upside momentum remains elusive.
The index has closed within a narrow range for three consecutive sessions. Its continued inability to close above 22,800 keeps this level central to the near-term Nifty outlook.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) eased to 45 from 46, reflecting subdued momentum. Meanwhile, India VIX declined 0.59% to 16.31. Although volatility remains above 16, further cooling could provide a more supportive backdrop for an upward move.
Nifty Options Data: 23,000 Call OI and 22,500 Put OI Dominate
Nifty’s highest Call open interest (OI) is concentrated at 23,000, followed by 22,800. Maximum Put OI stands at 22,500, followed by 22,600.
Both Call and Put OI increased compared with the previous session. The Put-Call Ratio (PCR) remained largely unchanged at 1.05, suggesting relatively balanced positioning without a decisive directional advantage.
Nifty Support and Resistance Levels
| Technical level | Nifty |
|---|---|
| Immediate support | 22,600 |
| Next support | 22,500 |
| Immediate resistance | 22,800 |
| Next resistance | 22,900 |
A sustained move above 22,800 would strengthen the case for a recovery towards 22,900. On the downside, the 22,600–22,500 zone remains important for maintaining near-term stability.
Bank Nifty Outlook: Bullish Recovery Within a Weak Primary Trend
Bank Nifty closed at 54,267.40, up 0.54%, forming a bullish candle. The index opened lower but recovered to finish above the psychologically important 54,000 level.
Despite this rebound, the primary trend remains weak. The RSI stood at 40, indicating that momentum has yet to strengthen meaningfully.
Bank Nifty also continues to trade below the middle Donchian band at 54,850, which remains a higher technical hurdle beyond the immediate resistance levels.
Bank Nifty Options Data: 55,000 Emerges as Key Call OI Level
Bank Nifty’s highest Call OI is concentrated at 55,000, followed by 54,500. Maximum Put OI stands at 54,000, followed by 53,500.
The PCR of 0.94 indicates relatively balanced derivatives positioning. The recovery above 54,000 offers near-term support, but follow-through buying remains necessary to improve the technical outlook.

| Technical level | Bank Nifty |
|---|---|
| Immediate support | 54,000 |
